There we were in Arnem Land, a vast, remote and beautiful aboriginal land holding in Australia's Northern Territory. We set out to climb Ubirr Rock and view the old rock paintings. Along the way I came across this lovely dragonfly that I could not pass by without trying for a precious still photo. ©Gerald Diamond All rights reserved

In Australia's Top End wetlands the freshwater crocodile is feared and well-rsepected for its killing skill. It's arsenal includes powerful jaws that open very wide , its adaptive dentication (i.e. its scary teeth) and above all its startling speed. But I was also quite taken by its patience and ability to blend into its surroundings so seamlessly. This fellow lay there, a grayish flat hulk on the grayish sand and surrounded by weathered grayish shore debris. Word to the wise: don't go near the shore on foot or in a small boat in these waters anytime. ©Gerald Diamond All rights reserved
