Kata Tjuta: a companion piece to Ayers Rock ("Uluru"), this group of huge outcroppings lies only about 30 miles west of the famous rock. As with Uluru, the closer you get the more complex is the surface. Here you can see an oasis-like stream bed giving rise to trees and low scrub and grasses. Rain comes very infrequently but can lead to rapid flooding in narrow channels such as this. The pock-marked side of the rock looms mysteriously over the desert.
